A brilliant start to October here at Oakwood!
I am thrilled to announce the results of our recent Head Boy and Head Girl interviews. Mr Sharp and I were absolutely blown away by the calibre of our class-elected candidates. Their passion, confidence and commitment to our school values were truly inspiring.
As a result, we’ve expanded our school ambassador team and are proud to introduce:
These wonderful pupils will be supporting school tours, welcoming key visitors, mentoring younger year groups and leading school projects throughout the year. Congratulations to each of you – I can’t wait to work alongside such an incredible team!
One of the highlights this week has been hearing the children’s excitement about Kindness Week, which Mr Sharp launched in our assembly. Across classrooms, children have been discussing their pledges and how they’ll be performing acts of kindness to raise sponsorship.
Kindness is a core value at Oakwood, and we’re proud to promote a culture where children, staff and families treat one another with respect and compassion. We hope this focus will help children feel more positive about their friendships, build stronger peer relationships, and foster a sense of belonging and wellbeing throughout our school.
A huge thank you to our parent community for responding so quickly to our school photo arrangements this week. The children looked incredibly smart, and their smiles lit up the school! We know the short notice wasn’t ideal, and we’re working hard to improve how we communicate key dates in advance.
If your child missed their photo due to illness, we’re looking into ways to offer catch-up opportunities later in the year, alongside our whole-class photos. We understand how important these keepsakes are for families, and we’ll do our best to ensure everyone is included.
Next week, we’ll also be continuing our equalities work by exploring Black History Month. At Oakwood, we are committed to helping children understand and celebrate diversity, and to fostering an inclusive environment where every child feels seen and valued.
Our school equality objectives include:
We look forward to sharing more about this important work with you in the coming weeks.
It may only be October, but we’re already getting festive! Next week, children will be designing their Christmas cards, which will be available for parents to purchase in time for the holiday season. Once you’ve followed the ordering steps at home, please return your child’s design to the school office. We can’t wait to see their creativity shine!
Lastly, we’re eagerly awaiting the results of our School Councillor elections – another brilliant example of pupil voice in action. I’ll be announcing our new councillors very soon!
Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm. Have a restful weekend, and we look forward to another inspiring week ahead.
Warm wishes,
Hannah Morgan
